The Reverend Victoria Pretti
The Reverend Victoria Pretti was
called to serve as rector of St. Mary’s-by-the-Sea
and began her ministry here on September 1, 2016.
Mother Victoria was ordained in the Diocese of
Massachusetts and previously served as Deacon-in-Charge
and then Priest-in-Charge of All Saints Church
in West Newbury
Massachusetts, Priest-in-Charge of Church of Our
Saviour in Milton Massachusetts, and Rector of
St. Mary’s in Stone Harbor New Jersey.
She and her husband Anthony both
grew up and lived most of their lives in the Boston
area. Prior to her life of ordained ministry,
Mother Victoria worked for many years as a critical
care nurse in Boston-area hospitals, and also
served as chaplain in a large home hospice agency.
She worked for twelve years at Boston’s
Pine Street Inn, which is one of the largest homeless
shelters and social service agencies in the country.
Mother Victoria studied theology
and received a Master of Divinity degree from
Weston Jesuit School of Theology, and also completed
further Anglican studies at the Episcopal Divinity
School, both in Cambridge Massachusetts. She earned
a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from The
Center for ReligiousDevelopment in Cambridge,
and is currently enrolled as a student with the
Center for Action and Contemplation’s Living
School, which is based in Albuquerque New Mexico.
Mother Victoria is a Third Order
Franciscan. She loves animals, and nature, and
all things outdoors. Her love for God spills over
to include every beloved human child of God, as
well as everything else in God’s beautiful
creation. She believes that the mysterious love,
mercy, glory, and presence of God is revealed
in everyone and everything God has made, even
… and perhaps especially … in the
people, places, and things where we least expect
to find it.
Mother Victoria believes that
we are living in an amazing and challenging time,
in which God is revealing God’s Self in
amazing and challenging new ways. It’s our
privilege, and our joyful adventure, to try to
keep up with what the Holy Spirit is doing, right
here and right now!
