ECUMENICAL EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY

The Pantry is an emergency food pantry operating year-round providing food to families in need in the greater Pt. Pleasant area. Over twenty years ago the Pantry began as a non-profit, totally volunteer organization. Thirteen area churches are involved. The generosity of individuals, churches, businesses, schools, clubs and various service organizations in the community make us a reality. Anyone who has the time and desire to help is welcome. Are there people in need in this area?

St. Gregory’s Pantry gives temporary aid (a 4 day supply of food and personal items) to approximately 1200 individuals annually. In addition, during the holidays we help about 200 - 250 local families. The elderly, young single mothers, persons with illness or disability and low-income working families represent most of our clientele.

What do volunteers do at the Pantry?

The large volume of food passing through our doorway necessitates constant sorting and re-stocking. Food is packaged daily for clients with referrals. Referrals are obtained from the County Welfare Agency, area churches and local schools and hospitals. Food is given out according to the size of a family while meeting basic nutritional guidelines. Our area youth provide us with invaluable help during the holidays and throughout the year. The Pantry is most grateful for all the support this community has given us.

Major Events

There are 3 Major Distribution Events: Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Over 200 families participate in our client shopping, a popular method of food distribution during the holidays.

Special Projects

March & April
"Gathering of Easter Baskets"
At the Easter Food Distribution, baskets filled with candy,
toys and/or books are collected for each child on our list.
We have been able to give an individual Easter basket to each child under 12.

December
"Toys for Infants through Teens"
Our Christmas Food Distribution, along with stocking
stuffers, we provide 2 or 3 toys per child.
In early December we begin our search for toys.

Friendship Dinners

Companionship and a warm meal are provided on
one Sunday of each month, year round.
Location: The Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church,
corner of Route 88 & Arnold Avenue Pt. Pleasant
Transportation is provided if needed.

Holiday Friendship Meals

"Thanksgiving Day Feast"
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This meal is prepared by the Pt. Pleasant Beach
Elks Lodge at 820 Arnold Avenue.

"Christmas Day Open House"
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The Pt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church on Bay &
Forman Avenues is the location for our Open House.
Food, entertainment, toys and small gifts are provided.

"New Year’s Day Open House"
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This event of food and fellowship is held at
Sacred Heart Church, Main Avenue, Bay Head.

The participating churches are:

ALL monies donated are used to purchase additional food, fresh produce,
milk, meat and other basic necessities for our clients.
