Meet Our new Priest-in-Charge

The Rev. Dr. Debra M. Brewin-Wilson

St. Mary’s by-the-Sea is pleased to welcome The Rev. Dr. Debra M. Brewin-Wilson to be our new priest-in-charge.  She will begin her duties on Monday, October 17,2022.

Debbie (or Reverend Debbie) comes to St. Mary’s with an extensive education and training in various methods of prayer and spirituality, combined with a commitment to social justice and inclusion.  She has been an Episcopal Priest since 2006, most recently in St. Mary’s Church in Sparta, NJ.  She has also served as a Volunteer Nave Chaplain in Washington National Cathedral, and a rector of St. Thomas’s Parish in Upper Marlboro, MD.  She completed her Doctor of Ministry and Master of Divinity degrees at the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA.

"I am very happy to be returning to Ocean County. I've missed the ocean!”  Debbie said. “I'm looking forward to joining the parishioners of St. Mary's By-the-Sea as we love and serve our neighbors and continue to build an inclusive, welcoming community."

 

New Jersey Roots…

A native of New Jersey, Debbie served as Priest-In-Charge of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Lakewood, NJ, from March 2007 to April 2009. She began her career in healthcare, earning her BSN degree from the University of Pennsylvania, her MSN degree from Seton Hall University and working as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in health centers across New Jersey.

Debbie is an accomplished Celtic harper, singer, recording artist and teacher.  She has released several recordings, books of arrangements, and one book/CD set of Celtic Music.
